Hail and farewell to fashion high priestess Wendy Dagworthy

25 July 2014

Sad to hear that Wendy Dagworthy, once dubbed “the high priestess of British fashion”, is to hang up her slingbacks after 26 years at the coalface. The much-admired professor of fashion at the Royal College of Art and a founder of London Fashion Week has had everyone from Hussein Chalayan and Giles Deacon to Stella McCartney pass through her elegant fingertips as head of programmes at the RCA, and before that at Central St Martins.

A true Seventies icon and cohort of Katharine Hamnett and Betty Jackson, Dagworthy ran her own edgy eclectic label entitled simply Wendy Dagworthy and dressed Roxy Music in their sartorially zany heyday.

She likes to keep her own wardrobe simple, though.

“I love Comme des Garçons when I can afford it and tend to wear black in winter and white through summer.” Well, The Londoner loves a fashion tip. So come on, Wendy, what’s the secret? “Just really enjoy what you wear.”
