History a hit in Hampstead

Stephen Fry and Zoë Wanamaker were among the guests at the Hampstead Theatre last night to celebrate the opening of Howard Brenton’s latest play, 55 Days, his first production at the theatre in nearly 30 years, which is set just before the execution of King Charles I in 1649.

“I had forgotten all of this history from my school days, it’s fascinating,” said Wanamaker. “I thought it was magnificent,” said Fry. “ An extraordinary, resounding play; full of ideas, full of wit. In 200 years’ time it will be as relevant as it is today.” As will Mr Fry, no doubt.
