It’s a long way from Ikea. Out at Christie’s bright and early on Saturday morning I spotted several stylish characters exploring the preview of the English Home sale which takes place this week.
Burberry’s Christopher Bailey and his partner Simon Woods were browsing the lots, as was Robin Birley — looking for an extra piece or two for the splendid interiors of 5 Hertford Street? Birley had brought one of his grey whippets, pictured above. Despite, or perhaps because of, the five-figure price tags for collectors’ items of furniture, one of Birley’s whippets made himself at home on a sofa. It’s a dog’s high life.
