Guests were buzzing at last night’s launch of Coke: The Biography, a history of the drug by Jeremy Scott and Natalia Naish, in South Kensington.

Scott, an ex-advertising executive, revealed the secret to a life of true hedonism. “Maturity is a myth,” he explained. “My brother is 70 but he’s always been 70 — he was stuffy and boring as a child. I’ve always been an irresponsible 22-year-old.”

One of his most colourful escapades was spiking the canapés of prospective PM Edward Heath, lacing them with methedrine, “the Perrier-Jouët of amphetamines.”

The Londoner was reassured last night’s canapés were speed-free.
