Lorraine Heggessey, the former BBC1 controller who famously sacked Richard Bacon over his Blue Peter drugs disgrace, was forced to make another difficult executive decision as industry figures gathered for the Edinburgh International TV Festival.

“Fire alarm while I’m in shower at The George,” she tweeted. “Do I protect my life or my modesty? No contest.”
