Is Sarah Helm set to get material for a new play? Her nephew Hugh Powell has found himself at the heart of the drama over British intervention in Crimea. Powell is the son of ex-Thatcher adviser Charles Powell and nephew of Jonathan Powell, Tony Blair’s former chief-of-staff.
Helm, a journalist, is married to Jonathan Powell and her play Loyalty, about the build-up to the Iraq War raised eyebrows. Hugh is on the other side of the family but he let loose a few secrets when he inadvertently showed a few sheets of the UK’s flimsy zero-sanction Russian foreign policy to a photographer lurking outside No 10.
