On the scent of a superhuman sense

Jo Malone’s nose for a good aroma has gained her international acclaim, but there is one person she is most keen to impress. The fragrance expert was at last week’s Young Turk Awards and recalled walking her 13-year-old son to school. Having asked him what he thought an entrepreneur was, he said: “It is someone who seeks innovation with warrior-like tactics.”

When a baffled Malone asked why he came up with that, he responded: “Because I live with you.” Indeed, there is evidently something superhuman about her approach. “I can tell if it’s going to snow or rain,” she said last year. “Everything for me is about smell. That’s how I communicate.” Sniff once for yes, twice for no.
