Statesman fizz rivals FT tea

It was the battle of the parties last night, with the intelligentsia split between the New Statesman’s centenary celebrations in Westminster and the FT’s 125th birthday party at Tate Modern.

Guests at the FT left laden with an overflowing gift bag of cufflinks and luxury tea, while champagne flowed all night at the Statesman bash.

Among the NS guests were ex-editor Paul Johnson, Labour leader Ed Miliband who was discussing baseball with former cricketer Ed Smith, Sir Michael Holroyd in attendance with his wife Dame Margaret Drabble and philosopher Alain de Botton, Harry Styles’s NBF.
