The Londoner took a seat at the Royal Court last night to see Sherlock’s Moriarty — Andrew Scott when off-duty — take to the stage in Birdland. Another mysterious figure from the TV programme, Amanda Abbington, joined us for Quintessentially Vodka cocktails after the show.
Abbington is married to Martin Freeman, who plays John Watson, but has also become his wife on screen, having joined the most recent series. We were glad, then, to hear that she has not fallen under the spell of unlikely sex symbol Benedict Cumberbatch.
Cumberbatch and Freeman will both play Richard III in separate productions and Abbington happily nailed her colours to the mast when we asked which she’d be seeing. “I’m obviously team Freeman,” she said, “without a doubt. Clearly.” But could we see her husband become Sherlock himself one day? “We should sort that out,” she joked. “A kind of quid pro quo approach.” What would the Cumberbitches say about that?
