The Chancellor’s wife, Frances Osborne, recently admitted to suffering from “germ stress” when she encounters sick people at parties. So how brave of her to venture out to the launch of Treat Yourself Natural by homeopath Sof McVeigh at Le Café Anglais.

So what remedy does McVeigh recommend for ministerial spouses? “They probably need a few de-stress remedies — lavender cushions under the pillow, they’re very good.”

McVeigh’s book was inspired by her column in The Lady magazine, where her editor was Rachel Johnson, sister of London Mayor Boris Johnson.

“Sof was very professional because she didn’t leave until she hadn’t been paid for two years, which is just the sort of contributor you want,” said Johnson. “I’m not just here because there has to be a Johnson at every London launch party. Though there should be.”
