Most music festivals feature their headline acts prominently in their marketing, but not Cornwall’s Leopallooza.
The event, described as “the best house party in a field” is smaller than many of its rivals and is known for giving little-known and emerging artists the chance to shine. Which is perhaps why, at half past two on Sunday morning, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke got up to play a secret DJ set to just eight people in the backstage area.
“He’s probably the most influential artist of the past decade and here he is prepping to play to half a dozen drunk hippies,” observed one astonished music buff. Kudos to Leopallooza, though, for refusing to upstage its less celebrated acts.
And while Yorke’s audience may have been smaller than he’s used to, they were certainly enthusiastic. The Creep singer was last seen being press-ganged into a dosey-doe by barn-dancing locals — many of whom had no idea who he was.
