And now the latest victim of high-level email scams. Friends of James Lascelles, second son of the late Earl of Lord Harewood, the Queen’s first cousin and boss of the English National Opera, have received a message saying he lost his wallet in the Philippines and needed £2,450. But now there is good news.

“Hello good people,” he says. “Well, it happened to me, the horrendous hacking asking for money which I pray didn’t fool anyone but thankfully we are back to normal service now. Any emails sent in the last two days, from Nov 1 to present moment, will have been returned. Sorry for any inconvenience. Love and music, James.”

Composer of Indian music and leader of the James Lascelles Quartet, James has played percussion and piano with Frank Zappa and Joan Armatrading. James’s mother Marion, former Countess of Harewood, is married to former Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe.
