Victoria Beckham threw the guests a little off balance at the Fashion Week party hosted by Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman last night as she rocked into the swanky Balthazar venue with informal jumper and culottes leaving other party-goers such as Erin O’Connor and Portia Freeman looking a tad overdressed. “I just design and wear what I like,” Beckham told me.
Fortunately, most guests were supremely relaxed about all fashion statements. Grayson Perry approved but had a top tip for the fashionistas. “Fashion Week shows are way too short,” he told me. “I prefer the St Martins ones which go on for ever and where I buy all my clothes.”
He was nervous about his forthcoming Reith Lecture: “I am completely over the whole curmudgeonly thing. That’s so last year. My new aim is to be positive and funny.”
