Voice of Lord’s Johnny Dennis retires

The Voice of Lord’s has been silenced. After 38 years and 136 Test matches as the PA announcer for England cricket matches, Johnny Dennis has retired. Dennis, a trained actor who got the job when his predecessor was offered a part in a Carry On film, says that like any stage role “it’s all in the timing”. He does not advise moonlighting, though — once a match overran and he left  St John’s Wood with 20 minutes to go before curtain-up in a show he was doing in the West End.
