Georgia Gould, whose pollster father was one of the architects of the Blair revolution two decades ago, is the new leader of Camden council.

The 30-year-old was elected last night to succeed Sarah Hayward who stood down unexpectedly.

Ms Gould was born into politics - and as a baby was held aloft by Neil Kinnock at a rally.

Her father, the late Lord [Philip] Gould, was Tony Blair’s personal pollster and played a key role in shaping the New Labour landslide victory of 1997. Her mother, publisher Gail Rebuck, tweeted: “Very proud!”

Labour candidate Siobhain McDonagh said on Twitter: “Your dad will be doing a jig in heaven!”

Cherie Blair’s former aide Fiona Millar tweeted: “Go Georgia!!! A star indeed but also a real grafter with ideas and vision which is what we need right now.”

Another former Blair aide, Ruth Turner, said: “At last, some good political news.”

Ms Gould describes herself as an author and public speaker and rents out a room in her Camden flat.
