Labour’s annual conference will take place at the end of September, with four days of discussion and voting.

The 2022 event will be held in Liverpool at the Arena and Convention Centre at King’s Dock. The Pullman Hotel will also host a number of speeches and forums.

Any member at the conference has the right to vote on motions. Attendees must register here. Constituencies and affiliated groups may send elected delegates to the conference, where there will be a large media presence.

So here’s what you need to know about the Labour Annual Conference.

What is the Labour Annual Conference schedule?

The conference will take place from Sunday, September 25, to Wednesday, September 28.

Emergency motions may be submitted by noon on Thursday, September 22, the deadline for other motions having passed.

The main event of Sunday morning will be a speech by Labour’s deputy leader, Angela Rayner. A discussion about how to win the next general election will follow. A session debating constitutional amendments also takes place that afternoon, with a vote at 3pm.

On Monday at 10.20am a session on Better Jobs and Better Work takes place. The shadow chancellor, Rachel Reeves, will give a speech in the main hall sometime around 12.35pm.

A Safe and Secure Communities discussion begins later that afternoon, with votes expected at 5.40pm.

On Tuesday, day three, there will be sessions entitled Britain in the World and A Green and Digital Future. Sir Keir Starmer, the party leader, will address delegates at 2pm in what is expected to be the conference’s most significant event. He will be under pressure to project himself as the next prime minister, and will take questions from delegates.

Starmer’s speech will be followed by a session entitled A Future Where Families Come First.

At 9.55am on Wednesday a session on Public Services That Work will begin and the conference is due to end by noon.

The Labour Conference app will provide further details of the timetable and specific events.

What policies will be discussed?

Rail strikes planned for Saturday, October 1, and Thursday, October 5, are likely to be on the agenda, among other policy issues such as climate action and Starmer’s call for an extra windfall tax to raise money to freeze energy bills.

Starmer’s ban on frontbenchers joining picket lines is likely to come under pressure, as rail and other strikes show no sign of ending.
