Angela Rayner was driven away in a police car after she and fellow Labour frontbencher Jonathan Reynolds were confronted by pro-Palestine supporters.

A video shows Ms Rayner, the party’s deputy leader, and shadow business secretary Mr Reynolds sitting in a parked police vehicle when a group approached, shouting slogans.

The clip, widely shared on social media on Friday, shows the group surrounding the car as the Labour pair sit in the front and backseat before being slowly driven off through a crowd.

The group are heard shouting “shame on you” and one man mentions children dying.

The group are not happy with Labour’s leadership which has been vastly different from the pro-Palestine approach favoured by ex-leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has previously backed a “humanitarian pause” to allow desperately-needed aid into Gaza, rather than a ceasefire.

He has also infuriated many party members in an interview with LBC on October 11 when he said Israel had “the right” to cut power and water from Gaza.

Ms Rayner has previously said: “We have to find a way to get peace, we’ve got to get those hostages out… we’ve got to get peace in that region.

“And Keir is doing his utmost to try and get – with international partners – this humanitarian aid into Gaza.”

She has come in for criticism for her own decision not to vote for a ceasefire and Palestinian protesters interrupted a fundraising dinner she was at in Stockport on Friday - which was also attended by Labour MP Andrew Gwynne.

At the gala a woman was filmed shouting:  “What kind of feminist are you? Fifteen thousand women and children dead, Angela Rayner, and you tout yourself as a modern-day feminist. I don't think so.”

The woman was filmed being led away by security but other pro-Palestinian supporters had also attended and were also heard shouting.

Mr Reynolds tweeted afterwards: “Great night with so many friends supporting Stockport Labour.”

It is understood the incident involving the police car followed right after.

Ashok Kumar, who has shared the video on Twitter, wrote: “There is no humanity in these people. They should be shamed for the rest of their lives.”

Ms Rayner and Mr Reynolds have both been contacted.
