A Liberal Democrat MP was today temporarily suspended from the parliamentary party after questioning how long Israel would exist.

David Ward had the whip withdrawn after a meeting with party leader Nick Clegg and Lib-Dem chief whip Alistair Carmichael.

On Twitter on Saturday, the Bradford East MP posted: “Am I wrong or am I right? At long last the #Zionists are losing the battle — how long can the #apartheid State of #Israel last?” Mr Carmichael said the language was “neither proportionate nor precise” and the MP was suspended until September 13.

Mr Ward was said to be “disappointed”. Earlier this year he said sorry for “unintended offence” over comments linking the Holocaust and atrocities against Palestinians.
