Russell Brand has launched a scathing attack on David Cameron and the British government, blaming UK foreign policy for the chilling Tunisia beach massacre.

Speaking on his YouTube video blog The Trews, the comedian and political activist described the minute's silence set to take place nationwide tomorrow as a "minute of bull***t".

Opening his near seven-minute long tirade primarily focused on David Cameron, Brand asks: "This Friday in Britain we're going to be holding one minute's silence. Does that one minute's silence mean anything or is it an empty futile gesture, part of general policy of bull***t?"

The 40-year-old star criticises the Prime Minister's response to the attack in Sousse last Friday, accusing him of absolving himself of any of the blame.

"There's an interesting attempt to line up and connect all of the terrorist atrocities while negating the fact that in the same ten year period [as several terrorist attacks have taken place in Europe] Britain has been engaged in foreign activity in Muslim countries which obviously provokes this kind of response," he says.

Going further, Brand adds he believes Britain's reaction to the beach massacre will lead to further attacks.

After accusing the UK government of selling arms to countries it has identified as threats, he says: "You can bet your life that the response to this terrible event in Tunisia will be the kind of activities that provoked and created this event Tunisia. The solution is the cause."

Finally he adds: "There's no point in having a minute's silence on Friday.

"It's a minute of bull***t."
