Britain's new Prime Minister Theresa May made a string of appointments to top jobs in her cabinet this evening, including making Amber Rudd Home Secretary.

Ms Rudd, previously Energy Secretary, made no comment to reporters as she left Downing Street this evening after news of her appointment was announced.

David Davis will be given the role of Secretary of State for Brexit, one of the priorities for Mrs May's administration following the EU referendum result.

Earlier this evening, Philip Hammond was made Chancellor of the Exchequer after his predecessor George Osborne resigned from the Government.

And former Mayor of London Boris Johnson was given the role of Foreign Secretary.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon will continue in his role as Defence Secretary, it has also been announced, while Liam Fox has been appointed International Trade Secretary.

The appointments came on a momentous day in British politics, with a farewell speech from David Cameron before Theresa May was made the country's new Prime Minister.

She promised to create "a country that works for everyone".
