MPs on all sides should unite to prevent a no-deal Brexit, senior Labour MP Yvette Cooper argues in today’s Evening Standard.

The former Cabinet minister said Parliament had to take control because Theresa May had “done so little to build trust or confidence so far”.

In her article, she writes: “Knowing Theresa May for over 20 years, I don’t believe she is the kind of Prime Minister who will in the end let ‘no deal’ happen.

"She takes the security and economic risks seriously. But I also don’t think we can afford to take the chance.”

Ms Cooper is backing a cross-party amendment tabled by fellow Labour MP Hilary Benn that would put Parliament in charge if Mrs May’s deal is voted down.

She also backed an extension of Article 50 to postpone Brexit.
