We’ve seen a whole array of news stories this week — Boris Johnson commits a political faux pas, and a certain tennis star winds up with a bloodied nose (by accident, of course). But how closely have you been following current affairs?

Boris Johnson has faced widespread criticism for suggesting people should buy a new kettle to save £10 a year on electricity.

“If you have an old kettle that takes ages to boil, it may cost you £20 to replace it. But if you get a new one, you’ll save £10 a year for every year.....£10 a year, every year, on your electricity bill,” he said.

His comments have attracted ridicule and criticism from Labour MPs and members of the public online.

A video of animal rights activists from Animal Rebellion resurfaced on social media this week, showing demonstrators pouring milk onto the floor of Harrods.

The group vowed to disrupt the supply of milk to UK supermarkets for the first two weeks of September in an anti-dairy protest.

It claims it has hundreds of volunteers who are prepared to take direct action to prevent people buying dairy milk.

A stone will be laid in honour of David Bowie on the Camden-based trail, among stones honouring the likes of The Who, Soul II Soul, Madness and Amy Winehouse.

The Music Walk of Fame was founded in 2019 by Lee Bennett and is a celebration of music’s contribution to society.

The stone will be unveiled on September 15, and tributes are expected to be paid by friends, collaborators and fans of the late singer.

In the 1998 advert the former Soviet Union leader enters the restaurant with his granddaughter, as a family turns around to see if it’s really him.

The Ipsos survey for the Standard showed 51 per cent of adults support an election this year, with 20 per cent taking the opposite view.

This comes as digital minister Matt Warman admitted the Conservative leadership race has been “disruptive” to the Government addressing the cost of living crisis.

The new Tory leader will be announced on Monday and will take over as Prime Minister the following day.

This comes after the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be moving to Windsor with their three children.

Prince William and Prince Harry had followed a similar rule when they attended school, going by William and Harry Wales, after their father’s title.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend Camila Morrone have split up after five years together, shortly after Morrone’s 25th birthday earlier this summer.

The Titanic star is infamous for not dating women over the age of 25, and has been mocked online for living up to this once again.

Comedian Amy Schumer made a dig at DiCaprio during the 2022 Academy Awards, claiming his interest in climate activism was to “leave behind a cleaner, greener planet… for his girlfriends”.

Nadal was left with a bloodied nose after accidentally hitting himself in the face with his own racket at the US Open.

He required treatment after sustaining a nasty cut on his nose, after driving his racket into the ground and having it ricochet back up and strike him in the face.

“At the beginning I thought I broke the nose because it was a shock. It was very painful,” Nadal said of the incident.

The reality TV star said it was “very unexpected” and that she and her partner, Sam Rason, were not planning on trying for a baby until next year.

Hart shared a heartfelt post on Instagram holding the baby scan. Molly-Mae Hague, Paige Turley, and Sharon Gaffka were among some of the previous Love Island stars that sent messages of congratulations.

Ikea’s Tottenham store bid farewell on Wednesday, going out with a bang consisting of £1 meatballs and a wave of in-store sales.

Locals described it as “truly heartbreaking” after the branch closed its doors for the last time since opening 17 years ago.

The store held a farewell festival over July and August in which in-store only offers were made on a number of products.
