Apple 'developing new iPhone with curved screen' for release next year

Colour burst: The iPhone 5C is one of two models launched in September

Apple is developing iPhones with larger screens made of curved glass and enhanced sensors, according to reports.

The Californian-based technology giant is said to be working on two new models featuring displays which would curve downwards at the sides, both of which could be released in the second half of next year.

Subsequent models will also feature sensors which could distinguish between heavy and light touches, a person familiar with the plans told Bloomberg.

The two iPhones – which are still in development and are yet to be completed - will be the largest to date, with screens of 4.7 and 5.5 inches, the source said.

Apple sold nine million iPhone 5S and 5C models in just three days when they were launched in September, but profits fell for the first time in 11 years to $37billion.

But chief executive Tim Cook insisted the business was “stronger than ever” after the launch of the latest iPhones.
