Food podcasts are an essential part of the internet and they’re coming in handy at the moment by offering solace away from the panic and fear of everyday life. And, if you listen to the archives, you can even indulge in episodes that don’t mention the C-word.

There has been an explosion in baking and cooking in recent weeks, whether it’s nailing the perfect sourdough or the 40th version of lockdown-banana bread, proving we're a nation of foodies.

These sweet shows serve up essential dinner inspo as well as keep you distracted from the wider world.

Bon Appétit Foodcast

Bon Appétit

If you love the Instagram feed, you will certainly love the podcast. Bon Appétit’s weekly podcast features interviews with the magazine’s staff, such as The Basically Guide to Better Baking with Basically editor Sarah Jampel.

The episode on what to cook in a dutch oven (the US version of a Le Creuset casserole dish) is particularly helpful for batch cooking at the moment.

When it comes to foodie podcasts, what could be better than a podcast about well, eating. In each episode you’ll find comedian Jessica Fostekew, who you might recognise from The Guilty Feminist and Motherland, chatting with a different interesting person about the different kinds of things they enjoy eating and devouring.

The episode featuring Meera Sodha, author of the excellent vegetarian and vegan cookbook East, will have you salivating so maybe don’t listen close to dinner time.

Recent guests on Off Menu, however, include Katherine Ryan, Armando Iannuci and Sara Pascoe.

The Magic Ingredient is a new podcast from the Pinch of Nom creators Kate Allinson and Kay Featherstone, who started creating and sharing healthy recipes with their Pinch of Nom blog back in 2016. With over 1.5 million followers and a best-selling cookbook, a podcast was the next logical step.

Produced by BBC Studios Unscripted Productions, the podcast sees guests including Joe Wicks and Vicky Pattinson join the duo in their kitchen to rustle up a special meal.

The Food Chain

From the BBC World Service, The Food Chain is more of a news-type podcast than merely discussing recipes.

Each episode takes on a different topic in the industry such the reasons behind chemicals in food, street food in South East Asia and whether or not wheat does make us sick.

Also look out for the ‘My life in five dishes’ mini-series, which features interviews with top chefs around the world including Nobu Matsuhisa and Samira Nosrat.

Table Manners with Jessie Ware

Dining out: Jessie Ware’s podcast, Table Manners, is recorded with her fabulous mum Lennie

When Jessie Ware teamed up with her mum Lennie to launch the Table Manners podcast back in 2017, she might not have thought she’d be still doing it nine series later. Each episode sees Jessie and Lennie chat to a different person over a delicious dish they’d made and it’s compulsive listening.

They may be recording remotely not but that hasn’t stopped this being an absolute joy to tune into each week. The recent Riz Ahmed episode is a good one to start with.
