In a manner befitting the beloved murder-mystery board game, Cluedo has killed off a character.

For the first time since 1949, one of the usual suspects has been bumped off in the standard edition of the detective game.

Mrs White, the housekeeper, will no longer feature as one of the six potential killers alongside the likes of Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett and Professor Plum.

Replacing Mrs White is new character Dr Orchid, a biologist with a PhD in plant toxicology.

Orchid is the adopted daughter of house owner Dr Black, and – of course – has a big secret that gives her a motive in the game.

“It was a difficult decision to say goodbye to Mrs. White – but after 70 years of suspicious activity, we decided that one of the characters had to go,” said Craig Wilkins, Marketing Director for Hasbro UK.

“Dr. Orchid is a brilliant new character with a rich backstory and links to the Black fortune. We’re sure families across the UK, Ireland and the world will continue to create thrilling murder mysteries with all six suspects inside of the iconic Tudor Mansion. ”

It’s not the first time Cluedo has undergone a change – previous weapons no longer found in the board game include an axe, bomb, syringe, and poison.

Dr Orchid will be found alongside fresh illustrations of the other characters in new Cluedo sets from July.
