Gamers at the ready, the biggest event in gaming is about to kick off: E3 is just around the corner.

The annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is the largest gaming expo of the year and a chance for the biggest names in gaming to show off their new consoles, titles and to set the bar for the rest of the industry.

Here’s everything you need to know.

When is E3 2019?

E3 always takes place in June in Los Angeles, at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.

This year, the expo officially starts on June 11 and goes on until June 13, though some fringe events take place before the show.

What’s on the E3 2019 schedule?

There is so much to take in at E3 with many of the major gaming companies and studios announcing their new products and games at the show. Here’s who is going to be on show at this year’s event.

Google Stadia at E3

For the first time, Google is attending to show off its new Stadia gaming platform. Announced in March, the platform will facilitate console-style gaming without the need for an actual console.

Instead, gamers will be able to stream games such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at high resolution with surround sound, on their mobile or laptop.

Google is set to reveal more details about Stadia ahead of the expo, including launch and pricing details, but the company will be in and around E3 offering a deeper look at how the new platform will work.

Nintendo and Pokémon at E3

Nintendo is holding its main E3 conference on the Tuesday morning.

The company will be releasing information about Pokémon Sword and Shield, the follow-up game to Sun and Moon which is set to arrive later this year.

As well, fans are hoping to hear more news about Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch. The hit game, which first came out in 2001, is supposed to be arriving on the Switch some time in 2019, and E3 may be the moment that Nintendo offers an official release date.

Microsoft and Xbox at E3

Microsoft is one of the few big gaming console makers taking in E3 this year, more on that below. The company has already announced its new Xbox for 2019, the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, but there could be some more news on its next Xbox, codenamed Project Scarlett.

As well, there should be information on the next slate of Xbox game releases, including Halo Infinite and a new Forza title.

EA at E3

Electronic Arts is skipping E3 by holding its own event before the official expo, named EA Play, at the Hollywood Palladium.

Attendees will be able to play unreleased games, while the company will also host a livestream to showcase its next releases.

During this year’s livestream, EA will reveal more details about its next Star Wars Jedi game, Fallen Order, as well as FIFA 20, Madden NFL 20, and Apex Legends.

Netflix at E3

Google isn’t the only tech company taking in E3 for the first time this year, Netflix is also jumping on the gaming bandwagon. The streaming company is going to have a gaming fair at the expo as well as hosting a panel on developing its Originals shows into video games.

We know that Stranger Things is getting its own game and this event may unveil more news about Netflix’s pivot to gaming.

Who is missing from the E3 2019 schedule?

You might have noticed that Sony is missing this year’s E3 so there will be no PlayStation news coming next week.

The company said it was missing the expo this year as it is looking for other “inventive opportunities” to connect with the PlayStation community.

Intriguing, to say the least.

We’ll be covering the major news and announcements from the event so make sure to check back to see what is going on in LA.
