Google are celebrating the 161st birthday of revered Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi in a new Google Doodle graphic.

Born in 1852 in the small town of Reus, Catalonia, Gaudi went on to become celebrated for his exuberant style of design, and ended up creating some of the most iconic attractions in Barcelona.

Today’s Google Doodle tribute depicts Park Güell, Gaudi’s famous garden complex in the north of Barcelona, the shell-like interior of the Casa Mila and the balcony designs of Casa Battlo, two of his most emblematic buildings, and the masked soldiers of his seminal, unfinished work, the Sagrada Familia.

The construction of the Sagrada Familia church was started in 1882 by architect Francesc de P. del Villar in a Gothic revivalist style, but when Gaudì took over he changed this, working on the building until his death.
