Hackers target 'devil' Amy Winehouse website

Attack: Amy Winehouse's site was replaced by abuse
10 April 2012

Amy Winehouse's website has been hacked and replaced with a page of abuse.

A hacking group called SwagSec today claimed responsibility for the cyber attack. Experts say it could mark the beginning of a new battle between rival hackers. SwagSec replaced the troubled singer's official site with flashing coloured text, referring to her as "AmycrackheaddevilWinehouse".

It also launched a vitriolic attack on the Anonymous group of hackers, saying, "We r not affiliated wit Anonymous", before claiming their rivals "don't know wtf they are doing". The group is believed to be planning to attack other music stars.

The hacked page also displays a rant about taking "back the internet from the white devil", which they say includes Winehouse, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. The group said on Twitter: "We startin wid Amywine House. Racist crackhead devil bitch."

Record company officials were today trying to restore the site, as experts say it could trigger a rash of similar attacks by groups trying to outdo each other.

Graham Cluley, of computer security firm Sophos, said: "It's very easy to imagine all the hackers are on the same side, but they aren't - and unfortunately the battleground is often innocent people's websites.

"There's a lot of infighting, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a lot of revenge attacks as hackers throw arrows at each other."

The hacking follows a difficult time for Winehouse, who last month cancelled tour dates after a disastrous show in Belgrade, where she was booed repeatedly for her singing.
