Mobile World Congress wrapped up last week with enough folding phones to keep us going for a while. Now it’s on to the next big release: the Huawei P30 range.

The more consumer-friendly to the business-focused Huawei Mate range, the P30 has a big reputation to uphold. Last year’s P20 was a major release for the Chinese tech company, helping to cement its status as the second-biggest smartphone maker in the world.

The P20 Pro, in particular, was an excellent device, with three cameras on the back of the phone that could rival even a DSLR camera.

So what is Huawei going to pull out of the bag in Paris this time? Here’s what we know so far about the Huawei P30.

Huawei P30: Design rumours

If you had your eyes peeled at MWC, you may have seen a P30 Pro kicking around. Digital Trends received an exclusive look of the new device, though it was a non-operational prototype, so we pretty much know exactly what it will look like.

Huawei has gone for a reflective chrome finish on the back of the phone, similar to designs on last year’s P20 and Mate 20 phones. It’s a glass back too, which points to wireless charging, something Huawei prides itself on.

Digital Trends reports that the shape of the phone is the same physical size as the P20 Pro, a 6.1-inch screen but with tapered edges like the Mate 20 Pro so it fits nicely in your hands.

Unfortunately, Digital Trends was not allowed to photograph or talk about the front of the device, so we have to rely on leaks for this. WinFuture points to the phone having a teardrop notch at the top of the screen, removing the chunky bezel at the bottom, and with a three-lens camera set up on the back of the device.

Huawei P30: Camera rumours

The camera was the major focal point of last year’s P20, so it’ll be interesting to see how Huawei tops that this time.

It looks like both the P30 and the P30 Pro will have three camera lenses, but the Pro will also have a 10x optical zoom option. Some renders point to the P30 Pro as having four camera lenses, but we’ll have to wait until the launch to see if that comes to fruition.

Huawei P30: Spec rumours

The new Huawei P30 and P30 Pro devices will be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 980 chip, the same processor found in the Mate 20 Pro. It’s exceptionally powerful, and offers great battery life and AI features, so those will probably be touted by Huawei at the launch event.

The P30 Pro could come with a mega 12GB RAM, which will make the device extremely fast. It looks like we’re starting to get used to seeing flagships with 10GB or more RAM now.

We don’t know yet if the P30 line will support 5G technology. Huawei may choose to add a separate 5G P30 to the line up, like the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, but we’ll have to wait and see what it chooses to do.

Given the emphasis on 5G this year, it would be highly unlikely that Huawei skips out on the 5G tech for this phone range release.

Huawei P30: Price and release date

Last year’s P20 was on sale for £600, whilst the P20 Pro went for £800. It’s likely the P30 and P30 Pro smartphones will cost a similar price, or between £50 - £100 more.

In terms of release dates, the phones will be unveiled at an event in Paris on March 26, so we’re assuming there will be an early April release date.
