If you’re serious about getting the best performance from your game console, Sony have just unleashed the one for you.

The PlayStation 4 Pro has arrived, boasting a major boost in CPU and GPU – meaning 4K graphics for gamers.

While those with the original console will still be able to play every PS4 game, those who upgrade to the Pro can experience even sharper and more impressive visuals and performance. You'll need a 4K TV to see 4K graphics, but even if you don't have one, the new console will still offer increased and stabilised frame rates.

If you're getting your hands on the Pro, here are the games you should check out at launch.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Square Enix

Xbox One got Lara Croft’s latest adventure early as a one-year exclusive, but PS4 Pro players can now get the most optimised version of the game running in 4K at 30 FPS.

Hitman

Square Enix

The entire first series of Hitman is now available, and Io Interactive have boasted that it will have “a whole new layer of detail added to it” on the Pro console. The extra RAM allows for better textures and detail in the bustling maps.

Titanfall 2

EA / Repawn

While it won’t be running in native 4K, the slick and fluid action in Titanfall 2 will be improved on the PS4 Pro with a more stable 60 FPS frame rate at a higher resolution to the standard console.

Skyrim: Special Edition

Bethesda

If you’ve been FU-ROH-DAH-ing your way around the Elder Scrolls remaster, you’ll get even better visuals on PS4 Pro. The RPG is running at native 4K resolution with an improved draw distance as the fantasy world is rendered in front of you.

NBA 2K17

2K Games

If the animations and motion capture on the latest NBA weren’t already incredibly lifelike – read more on how that was achieved in our feature – the game is running in native 4K at 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Eidos / Square Enix

The latest Deus Ex instalment was one of the games Sony highlighted when they announced the PS4 Pro. The new console gives it 4K graphics, as well as improved lighting and reflection effects.

That’s not all the PS4 Pro is doing for now – a whole range of games are being optimised for that extra processing power (see Sony's full list here).

Then there are future games including the likes of Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Gran Turismo Sport which will be taking full advantage of the new hardware.

Get ready: console gaming is about to become more eye-frazzlingly beautiful than ever before.

PS4 Pro is available now from £349
