Commuters using train firm c2c faced huge rush hour delays this morning as services cancelled due to heavy fog.

Trains in and out of Fenchurch Street were hit by the delays, with the pperator warning the entire network could be affected by cancellations and disruption until 10am.

The firm blamed the chaos on “thick fog” in Essex and Barking early in the day, which led to residual delays as the morning wore on.

It announced: "Due to thick fog, train services running across the whole c2c network may be cancelled, delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised."

But angry commuters lashed out on social media, with many complaining they had been kicked off trains towards London and left waiting on freezing platforms.

Twitter user Spacebee wrote: “As it's Halloween, @c2c_Rail have decided to run a scary service to celebrate. I'm stranded at Barking because of fog."

Martin Gibbons wrote: “What's with the poor morning service? No announcements either on trains or at stations.Just been kicked off at Barking. Shambles.”

Passenger Rob Bailey branded the company “useless”, tweeting a photo of a packed Barking station platform and writing: “God help this line when some snow hits.”

And Selina Newcombe wrote: “What's going on? used to rave about what a great train line this was-now in the 4th week of delays, cancellations and slow service.”

A spokesman for c2c said: "We're sorry to everyone whose journey has been delayed."
