Eurostar services may be halted this Easter weekend as staff threaten to strike over the alleged “victimisation” of a union representative.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has announced plans to strike from March 25 and about 100 senior members of staff based at St Pancras are now being balloted for action.

The dispute concerns an RMT representative and train manager who has objected to managing a train along a section of the Eurostar route alone.

The union says lone work is unsafe and she is within her rights to refuse.

Eurostar said it was in discussion with the union and hoped to find a solution.

The dispute came as commuters suffered overcrowding after a signal failure caused travel problems on London Underground.

The Circle line was suspended and there were severe delays on other lines after a signal failure at Baker Street at the start of the morning rush-hour.

LU apologised for the disruption.
