London Overground cancellations: Faulty train causes second day of travel misery on major rail route

London Overground: Morning commuters faced travel mayhem for the second day

Commuters faced a second morning of rush hour chaos after a faulty train meant part of a major London Overground line was forced to close.

There was no service between Surrey Quays and New Cross Gate on the line due to a broken down train at Dalston Junction on Friday.

The fault caused travel misery for commuters who were forced to seek other routes to get to work amid the mayhem.

Furious passengers took to social media to vent their outrage.

One wrote on Twitter: “So I get to New Cross, to find Overground trains aren’t running from there. Although my fellow passengers and I only found out after standing around for 10mins because an A4 piece of paper was Sellotaped to a column telling us. It’s 2018.”

Another said: “So first week as a commuter in London, two out of five days my overground was suspended or party suspended. That’s a shocking level of unreliability.”

Tweeting London Overground’s account directly, one wrote: “Why does a breakdown at the top of the line cause all this at the bottom please? Turn them around at New Cross Gate or Canada Water!”

Jonathan Fox, TfL’s Director of Rail and Sponsored Services, said: “We apologise for the disruption customers faced on London Overground’s East London line this morning, this was due to a faulty train at Dalston Junction.”

The line has since been reopened.
