Never-before-seen images show the Elizabeth line in its final stages of construction as engineers work beneath the streets of London for the opening of the new Tube line at the end of this year.

The behind the scenes images give an inside look at the last stages of Europe’s biggest infrastructure project.

All the platform screen doors are now installed, overhead power equipment in the tunnels is complete and the line's 10 new stations are being fitted out with intricate architectural finishes and mechanical and electrical equipment.

The trains are currently being tested between Abbey Wood and Canary Wharf using the line’s new automatic train control system, which operates in the central section of the route.

And earlier this week, the overhead power equipment was successfully switched on in the remaining section between Westbourne Park and Stepney - meaning that the Elizabeth line tunnels are now fully charged.

To mark the “significant” progress being made as the December opening date, Crossrail has released a new set of images revealing how stations including Bond Street, Paddington and Tottenham Court Road are taking shape.

Rail enthusiasts can see the architectural form of tunnels, complete with tiling and platform screen doors.

The new stations each have defining sculptural details, which are revealed in the images.

Liverpool Street stations Broadgate ticket hall features a textured, geometric ceiling, and a skylight canopy above its entrance, for example.

At Tottenham Court Road station, passengers will tap in beneath a remarkable ceiling of steel light fittings in the western ticket hall.

Signage has been fitted at Farringdon station, the images also showed.

And the first trains have sped through Paddington station.

Simon Wright, Crossrail Chief Executive & Programme Director said: “Construction of the Elizabeth line is now in its final stages with a huge effort under way to complete and commission this fantastic new railway.

"Significant progress continues to be made with station fit-out heading towards completion, installation of platform screen doors complete, electrical equipment being switched on and train testing in the tunnels under way.”

The Crossrail project is being delivered by Crossrail Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of TfL, and is jointly sponsored by the Department for Transport and TfL.
