Severe delays to London buses after black cab protest in heart of city

Buses across central London were this evening hit by severe delays after black cab drivers blocked roads with their cars as part of a demonstration.

Transport for London warned buses in the heart of the city could be delayed by as much as an hour because of the protest - which taxi drivers say is over TfL's refusal to impose strict enough licensing conditions on Uber drivers.

TfL Bus Alerts (@TfLBusAlerts) tweeted: "Buses serving Central London delayed up to an hour due to the Taxi demo. Tickets accepted on London Underground in Zones 1 and 2."

Delays have also been worsened by heavy traffic on the roads and the closure of a major trunk route in east London following two accidents.

Parts of the A13 were shut after two separate pile-ups, one involving three lorries.

Earlier today police were called to City Hall where black cab drivers were mounting a protest over unfair licensing rules for London taxis.
