Commuters were tonight facing major rush-hour disruption after a "trespass incident" blocked all South Western Railway lines.

Massive queues of people could be seen waiting at London stations after the incident between Richmond and Clapham Junction.

Trains running between the stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 25 minutes. The disruption is expected until 9pm.

South Western Railway said in a statement: "Due to trespass on the railway between Richmond and Clapham Junction all lines are blocked. Services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 21:00."

One frustrated commuter told the Standard: "It’s ruined my journey home. Staff said they had no idea how long service will take to resume and pointed everyone to a bus or East Putney Tube station.

"I’m now heading towards Twickenham and reckon it’ll take me two hours from High Street Kensington. I could drive to Bournemouth in that time."
