Rush hour commuters are facing travel mayhem on the railways after a train derailed in south east London.

Southeastern and Thameslink expect disruption until the end of the day following the incident near Bellingham.

Thameslink said a non-passenger service had derailed in the sidings shortly before the evening rush hour began.

The empty train has blocked the line from Denmark Hill towards Bromley South, causing havoc for people trying to travel home from the City.

Trains are being placed on diversion with passengers warned of huge disruption to their journeys, with services from Victoria unable to call at Denmark Hill.

The incident comes two months after a huge freight train derailed in Lewisham, causing days of frustration for Southeastern commuters.

Commuter Jodie Dwyer raged: “I cannot express how much I hate @Se_Railway!!

“Every week there is some sort of cancellation and delay! Absolute joke!”

And Dan Duncan tweeted: “If I had a shot for everything time a #Southeastern train was delayed, I'd be alcoholic!”
