Passengers travelling on Southern Rail services are to be banned from using electronic cigarettes from next month.

The rail operator, which runs trains on major commuter lines into London, said 'vaping' would no longer be allowed on trains and platforms as of July 26.

Southern said: "From Sunday the 26th of July Electronic cigarette devices may not be used on our trains or at our stations.

"It's not for safety but for the comfort of our other passengers."
