Commuters on the District and Circle lines faced rush hour misery after a signal failure at South Kensington station caused severe delays.

Passengers were hit with severe delays on the District line between Barking and Earl's Court westbound, TfL said.

The problems at South Kensington also sparked severe delays clockwise, and minor delays anticlockwise, on the Circle line.

An earlier signal failure at Bow Road had caused minor delays eastbound between Tower Hill and Upminster on the District line.

Furious commuters vented their frustration on social media as they struggled to make their journeys to work.

Vural Ince wrote: "Signal failure everyday, every weekend at #circle and #district line. Had enough #tfl."

Another person added: "Another morning of misery on @districtline and yet again, zero announcements or updates from station staff at West Brompton."

A statement posted on TfL's website said London Underground tickets were being accepted on local bus services.

Normal service resumed shortly after 10am.
