Train tracks begin smoking at level crossing as commuters try to pass

 
Track fire: smoke can be seen billowing as emergency services attempt to put out the blaze

Train tracks at a level crossing caught alight and began smoking in front of commuters attempting to cross during morning rush hour.

London Fire Brigade were called to the blaze at the crossing in Strawberry Hill station, Twickenham, at 9.14am today.

Witnesses reported seeing flames from underneath the tracks as smoke billowed up towards the train platform.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Services were temporarily delayed for up to 20 minutes as the LFB and Network Rail investigated.

The fire was under control by 9.44am.

LFB are investigating the cause.
