The Jubilee line is Londoners’ favourite on the Underground, according to a new survey of passengers.
One in four (24 per cent) of those polled named it as their favourite line just ahead of the Victoria line (19 per cent).
Its new-found popularity, according to the poll, comes after years of being synonymous with closures due to engineering works and subsequent rail replacement services. The Central and Piccadilly lines were tied, with 12 per cent naming them as their favourite line. The dubious distinction of the Tube’s least favourite line went to the Northern line, with 34 per cent singling it out.
The poll comes after Transport for London this week launched an Olympic-style campaign to manage demand on the network’s busiest line.
While the modernisation of the line continues, TfL is urging commuters to consider travelling outside the busiest periods or taking alternative routes and modes of transport.
It has even suggested commuters walk, as was advised last year, to cope with the influx for the London Games. Findings of the YouGov poll of 1,500 Londoners showed that the other unloved lines were the District (13 per cent) and the Bakerloo (10 per cent).
The Underground is Londoners’ preferred mode of transport, with 34 per cent choosing it as their favourite, compared with 22 per cent who favour the bus, 14 per cent the Overground and eight per cent the DLR.
David Waboso, London Underground’s director of capital programmes, said: “The very significant improvements we have made to the Jubilee and Victoria lines in recent years are clearly being recognised by our customers.
“On the Northern line, the busiest of all Tube lines, customers rightly believe we’ve got a way to go to bring it up to the standard they expect.”
