Rush-hour passengers faced transport misery this morning after a signal failure halted the Victoria Line.

The service was suspended between Victoria and Brixton just after 7am, sparking severe delays on the rest of the service.

TfL said it “strongly advised” customers to “use alternative routes where possible” and warned that key Victoria Line stations, including Finsbury Park, would be extremely busy.

The technical problem was fixed just before 8.15, but passengers were set to endure severe disruptions for the remainder of the morning.

Frustrated commuters hit out at transport bosses as the delays followed a weekend of Northern Line closures and came days before a planned Tube strike.

An angry commuter tweeted: “Awful week of service from @tfl Northern line down at the weekend, today Victoria line and then tube strikes Thursday! £150 well spent.”

And one said: "TFL not exactly endearing themselves 2 days ahead of strike action by losing the #Victoria line for the morning."

"@TfL seriously, why are there ALWAYS 'Signal failures' on the @victorialine!!! I've left 90 minutes earlier today! Its ridiculous!" wrote another.

A TfL spokesman said: "We apologise for the delays for customers this morning and we are working hard to get a good service running."

Customers can find out information about getting a delay refund at TfL.gov.uk.
