The world's entire fleet of A380 superjumbos are to be checked for wing cracks.

All 68 double-deck jets in service will have to be examined by engineers from manufacturer Airbus after tiny fissures were found during an inspection. Airbus insisted that the safety of the world's biggest passenger planes had not been compromised and that repairs will be carried out if any damage is found.

The European Aviation Safety Agency first ordered checks to the 20 most heavily used A380s last month. Airbus has dismissed calls to ground its superjumbo fleet over the cracks, which first came to light during repairs of a Qantas A380 damaged by an engine blowout in 2010.
