Hundreds of top restaurants which are preparing to reopen after lockdown today pledged to support a London charity that has been helping to feed the most vulnerable during the pandemic.

StreetSmart raises funds each winter to tackle homelessness by asking food venues to add a small donation to bills. It collected £760,000 with its 2019 campaign and will kickstart its appeal again tomorrow with the backing of 450 restaurants.

StreetSmart  distributes funds to homeless shelters across the country. As part of the 2020 campaign, venues including Michelin-starred restaurants, The River Café, St John and Core, are adding a voluntary £1 to diners’ bills.

StreetSmart director Glenn Pougnet said: “The support from restaurateurs has been unflinching even with so many facing uncertain futures themselves.”
