An angler who kissed a prized catch had to be resuscitated after he accidentally swallowed the fish.

The man pecked the six-inch long Dover Sole in celebration before it jumped out of his hand and into his mouth, a friend told the BBC.

The 28-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest after the sea creature became lodged in his throat on Boscombe Pier, in Bournemouth.

Paramedics were forced to remove the animal with forceps.

Ambulance worker Matt Harrison told the BBC: “It was clear that we needed to get the fish out or this patient was not going to survive the short journey to Royal Bournemouth Hospital.”

He branded the incident the "most bizarre" call-out he had ever attended.

Heroic members of Boscombe Pier Sea Anglers performed CPR on the sick fisherman following around 11pm on 5 October.

Paramedics managed to restart the unnamed man's heart in just three minutes.
