Beansprouts 'not cause of E. coli'

Beansprouts from a German organic farm were not the cause of the country's deadly E. coli outbreak, agriculture experts have said.

Lower-Saxony state's agriculture ministry said that 23 of 40 samples from the sprout farm suspected of being behind the outbreak have tested negative for the relevant bacteria.

It said further tests were pending.

The E. coli outbreak in Germany has killed at least 22 people and made more than 2,300 ill across Europe, leaving people uneasy about eating raw vegetables.
