12 April 2012

Detectives have charged a 15-year-old boy with manslaughter following the death a 40-year-old man.

Canadian national Peter Ramsey died in hospital on Friday from injuries he suffered during an alleged incident involving a gang of youths in Southampton on October 10.

The teenager, who has not been named, will appear at Southampton Youth Court on Monday, a Hampshire Police spokeswoman said.

Four other youths, aged between 13 and 15, remain on police bail in connection with the incident.

Another youth has been released from his bail without charge, she added.

Mr Ramsey suffered head injuries near his home as he walked from a Tesco Express store in the Millbrook area of the city with his girlfriend.

The dead man was an artist who had lived in Southampton for a number of years.

He lived with his girlfriend, and leaves two children from a previous marriage, who both live in Canada.

His mother and extended family live local to Southampton, and his father still lives in Canada.
