12 April 2012

A 16-year-old boy will appear in court charged with the murder of a teenager who was stabbed to death when youths clashed at a birthday party.

The boy will appear at Sheffield Youth Court charged with the murder of Dale Robertson, South Yorkshire Police said.

The 18-year-old was stabbed in the chest and died after youths clashed in Rokeby Drive, Parson Cross, Sheffield, during a 16th birthday party on Saturday night.

A police spokeswoman said two 17-year-old youths remain in custody.

A 16-year-old male has been released without charge.

Three males, aged 18, 16, 15, have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Emergency services were called to Rokeby Drive just after 11pm on Saturday following reports that a man had been assaulted "by a number of people".

Witnesses said they saw the victim staggering in the street before he collapsed to the ground in a pool of blood.

The teenager was taken to hospital in the city but died from his injuries.

It is thought a large number of youths had attended a girl's 16th birthday party earlier when troubled started.
