The mother of Jamal Edwards said her son “passed with me holding his hand” during her first interview since his death.

Brenda Edwards, 52, will return to the panel of Loose Women for the first time since her music mogul son died in February, aged 31, following a sudden illness.

Ahead of her return on April 26, Edwards, 52, spoke to fellow panellist Coleen Nolan about Jamal’s death, saying: “It was sudden and it was unexpected, and he went into a cardiac arrest and then he passed with me holding his hand.

“So I get a little bit of comfort from knowing I was with him.”

Brenda, who has been a regular panellist on the show since 2019, laid her son Jamal to rest last month, and has opened up about her grief.

Speaking about how her co-stars have supported her during this difficult time, she said: “I had Judi and Charlene wanting to bring food round, I had food coming from all angles.

“It has been great having the ladies there, and that’s something that has been a big part of my life and the kids’ lives so I need to return.

“It’s not even want to, it’s need to return.”

She continued: “I’ve missed everyone but I thank you for supporting and being there at the end of the phone for me.”

In a previous statement confirming her son’s death, Brenda described Jamal as “an inspiration to myself and so many”.

“He was the centre of our world,” she said.

Jamal founded the online music platform SBTV when he was just 15, and helped launch the careers of artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Jessie J and Dave.

He was awarded an MBE in 2014 for services to music. Jamal was also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, which helps young people set up their own companies.
