A newly wed bride has made an emotional plea for help to trace her brother who vanished on her wedding day nearly two weeks ago.

John Burke, 38, was last seen on Saturday August 7, at the groom's home where he was preparing for the celebrations with other male members of the wedding party.

His wedding suit was hung up ready to wear when the father of two, from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, said he was popping out to a shop at about 9.30am.

Mr Burke, who worked alongside his father as a labourer, never returned.

The marriage of his sister Kate, 27, to Colin Williamson, 26, continued as relatives became increasingly concerned about his whereabouts.

They reported him missing to police the following day.

Cheshire Police said the disappearance was uncharacteristic and officers were treating it as a "high risk" case.

At a press conference in Chester on Thursday Mrs Williamson, who returned early from her honeymoon in Alicante, Spain, pleaded with her brother to return home.

She said: "John, please come home. I don't mind at all that you missed the wedding, all I want to know is that you are safe, we all do. That is all that matters to us now.

Mr Burke is described as about 5ft 4in tall, and stocky in build. He has short dark hair, which is receding at the front. When he left the groom's house he was wearing a blue Adidas jacket with grey sleeves with stripes down the side and a blue Dunlop T-shirt and white trainers.
